From Dr. Josh:

Abuse of any form is the most psychologically damaging even in a person’s life. Seeking mental health treatment from a qualified professional should not just be a consideration, it is critical. When we have a physical wound that is severe we seek treatment. Abuse is a psychological wound that will not heal appropriately without treatment. Do not let cost limit you. There are free and low cost resources everywhere. Please trust me. Getting help after an abusive relationship is the best thing you can do for yourself and the rest of your life.
